LCLPR

System Overview

The Low-Cost Low-Power Radar (LCLPR) brings proven Ka-band SAR capability to programs where platform cost and payload constraints are primary drivers. Weighing 5 pounds in its current configuration — with a target of approximately 3 pounds — the LCLPR offers a practical path to all-weather radar imaging for smaller UAV platforms that cannot accommodate the larger LUAVR system.

Operating at 50 watts of RF power with a 7-kilometer detection range, the LCLPR maintains the core SAR and MTI functionality that defines Goleta Star's radar line while hitting aggressive cost and size targets. The 4×8×14-inch form factor integrates cleanly into wing-pod or central-bay mounting configurations typical of Group 1 and Group 2 UAS platforms.

Design Philosophy

The LCLPR was developed in direct response to growing demand for affordable radar sensors on commercially derived UAV platforms. By streamlining the hardware architecture without sacrificing fundamental detection performance, Goleta Star has produced a system that dramatically lowers the barrier to all-weather radar deployment. Programs operating under constrained budgets no longer have to choose between radar capability and platform affordability.

Capabilities

  • Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) — strip and video modes
  • Moving Target Indication (MTI)
  • 7 km operational range
  • Ka-band (35 GHz) millimeter-wave operation
  • 50 W RF output — optimized for extended UAV missions
  • Compact 4×8×14-inch package, ~5 lbs
  • Wing-pod and central-bay mounting compatibility

Target Platforms

The LCLPR is designed for Group 1 and Group 2 unmanned aircraft where payload capacity is limited but operational demand for all-weather situational awareness remains high. Applications include first responder support, coastal and border monitoring, traffic observation, and security surveillance in conditions that ground optical sensor operations.
